The Long and Winding Road is my first foray into traditional visual arts. Using a combination of acrylic and food-based art (made by local artist Karen Colville), the ten-minute quick paint was an exploration of the available materials and a practice of following impulses in the process. The Long and Winding Road can be interpreted as a portrayal of mind having just returned from a short visit of my hometown of Taipei City after seven years of absence. The trip turned out to be an interrogation and reconciliation of my heritage and home roots after having immersed myself in the Canadian culture through high-school and early post-secondary education. The Long and Winding Road depicted my sense of longing to my Taiwanese heritage and culture, and the road that I must continue to take as a Taiwanese-Canadian artist.
